STUART TOWN STUDIOS
ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM 2011/2012
IRONBARKS, NSW

Stuart Town Studios has been the home and studios of artists Madeleine and John Winch and their children Jessie and Martina for the past 30 years.

The house and studios have become too large for our present needs but realising the uniqueness of this complex as a place for artists to work in peace and quiet we decided to allow it to continue as a studio and house for other artists to enjoy as we have done.

It is their hope that visiting residents will treat it as a "home" and be a part of keeping the house and studios alive and working into the future. They will be encouraged to water the garden, plant a tree or bush if they wish, sweep the garden paths and nip off the blackberry bush that tends to poke its head up through the kitchen floor occasionally. Other duties include a daily neck scratch to the three donkeys that hang their heads over the fence and to eat the hot scones and fruit that arrives from passing locals or chat for a few minutes to the other artists living in the town who call by to borrow a tube of oil paint. The only obligation however is to step back a century and a half in time and enjoy an unbroken work experience in the beautiful studios.
